‘Under the Burning Sun’

This is the premier solo exhibition of South African artist Kenny Nkosi in the United States.

Nkosi works with fabric to create extraordinary textile collages on canvas depicting life in South Africa.

Extended thru Sunday Nov. 13
In a review in the Durham Herald, Art Critic Blue Greenberg described the painting 'The Roaster' : "The layers of yellow fabric make a strong face with her eyes ringed in deep circles and a mouth pursed with bits of brown fabric. The chicken, plumped up with snippets of yellow, orange and red scraps, is held tenderly in hands of brown cotton" Read the entire review here

Nkosi says “A lot of my work is centered on women. To me women are the backbone of the nation. I believe the saying: Strike a woman and you strike a rock”My mother taught me to understand the past and look to the future. Survival is the must to make an artistic living under the burning sun”
